1975 HONDA CR125 WORKS BIKE - THE ELSINORE
“ THE ELSINORE DOMINATION"
In the 60s and early 70s Honda was laughed at whenever Motocross was mentioned. They were the "snail" of the game. That game would seriously change when Honda rolled out their first 2-Stroke Racing Machine in 1972 called theRC250 (and RC125). Taichi Yoshimura climbed aboard an RC and dominated the birth and its first day out at the races in Japan. As the news spread like wild fire... in America, the laughers quickly stopped laughing as the newly formed Honda Racing Team started dominating tracks everywhere. Young American men likeMarty Tripes, Gary Jones, Marty Smith, Rocket REX Staten, Bill Grossi,Rich Eierstedt, andGary Semis became Motocross-gods on their Honda Works Machines.
The motorcycle I have painted (in the photo) is a 1975 CR125M1 ELSINORE. The ELSINORE domination in 1975 was mainly because of “After Market Trick-Kits” you could easily purchase from adverts in Motocross Action and Dirt Bike Magazines. These ad-ons features from FMF, DG, and others, helped keep Honda in the arsenal line-up after its 1974 ELSINORE domination. The first 125 Elsinore of 1974 changed the game and all the Japanese bikes caught up quickly. By 1975 the competition-game trophy had been taken back from HONDA and we saw new blood (out for blood) with Yamaha’s YZ, Suzuki’s RM, and Kawasaki’s KX. Every moto seemed to be decorated in the colors of Silver, Red, Yellow, and Green. Hardly a European Bike for miles around! But if you wanted to truly keep up with the competition… you'd better call the ADD-ON folks immediately… because your stock 2-stroke wasn’t going to cut it anymore. - SHANNON
Long live The ELSINORE. Long live HONDA!
